32-year old banker arrested for beating his wife to death in Bariga, Lagos

Olaoluwa Adejo, a 32-year-old bank worker has been arrested for the death of his 28-year-old wife, Maureen, at their home on Peluola Street, Oworonshoki, Bariga, Lagos State.

Olaoluwa was alleged to have tortured his wife of five years with a belt, as well as cutting her with a machete. Their 5-year-old son, Richard, who witnessed the incident, said that his father also forced a local insecticide, otapiapia, down the throat of his mother.

“My daddy beat my mummy with a belt; machete her here (shows arms), machete her here (shows legs). He used the belt on her here (points at face); forced my mummy to drink otapiapia (insecticide). My daddy took my mummy away.

My daddy said my mummy should get out of the house. My mummy said no. In the night, my daddy woke my mummy up and said, ‘Mosquito is too much, let me go and buy otapiapia’. My daddy forced my mummy to drink it. She shook her head. She vomited.

My daddy slapped my mummy. My mummy did not do anything to him. My daddy gave her one blow. My daddy kicked her. Small blood came out. My daddy slapped her, kicked her, machete her, blow her, and put otapiapia in her mouth and in the food,” Richard said.

The victim’s mother, Mrs. Kate Jonathan, explained that her daughter had moved out of her matrimonial house five days prior the incident and was living with her but decided to return for a party at the children’s school. She said her daughter never returned alive.

She said she reported the case at the Station, where she was told that the suspect had already reported that his wife committed suicide by taking local insecticide, Sniper.

It was gathered that Olaoluwa had already deposited the body of his wife in the Gbagada General Hospital mortuary and had allegedly gone to obtain court documents to enable him to bury her, before he was arrested.

The victim’s mother, Jonathan, who claimed to have visited the mortuary, said Maureen’s body had machete cuts and other torture marks.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said investigations were ongoing into the incident.

Badoo strikes again, kills RCCG pastor, family members.

The deadly cult group operating at the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Badoo, has struck again killing a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor, Victor Kanayo and his family.

According to reports by the Nation, the act was carried out at the early hours of Sunday by suspected members of the Badoo ritual gang.

His wife and 10-month-old baby were said to have been found unconscious and rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital by policemen from Igbogbo Division.
The attack occurred few hours after acting Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal met with all stakeholders at the palace of the Ikorodu monarch, Oba Abdulrasheed Shotobi on the menace of ritual killings.
It was gathered that the assailants smashed the head of the pastor identified as Victor Kanayo with two big stones, which were said to have been found beside him.
The Nation gathered that the murderers cut the iron bars on the window of the bungalow the family lived in before entering the house.
This is coming on the heels of several efforts by the police to contain the resurgence of the badoo killings which died down after massive raids of several shrines in Agbowa and Imota axis suspected to be the base of the cultists.
According to sources, the pastor and his family were the only ones living in the building because the landlord moved out some months ago as a result of increased insecurity.

Woman accused of locking up housemaid and traveling out of Nigeria for weeks, surrenders to the police

Ms Betty Ifeoma pictured below, a staff of NNPC lagos state office that was recently accused of locking up her maid, 13 year old Nkechi Oseh, for weeks and traveling out of Nigeria, surrendered herself to the police yesterday.

Recall that the state acting commissioner of police, Edgal Imohimi, led a team of police officers to Ifeoma's residence at No. 30 Adeniran Ajao Estate Anthony in Lagos state three days ago to rescue Nkechi after receiving a tipoff of the inhumane treatment meted at the little girl.

In a statement released by the state police PRO, Chike Oti, Ms Betty Ifeoma surrendered herself to the police yesterday November 24th and is currently undergoing interrogation at the Human Rights section of Lagos State Police Command.

The statement added that she would be charged to court on Monday November 27. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, has advised parents to be mindful of whom they entrust their children in order to avoid abuse of this nature.

“I became gay after my father’s friend did this to me” – 23 Year Old Nigerian Man Reveals

A 23-year-old Nigerian man, identified simply as Femi who was among the 42 homosexuals arrested in a Lagos hotel in July has revealed that he became he became gay after his Father’s friend raped him.

According to him, they were celebrating a birthday with friends which ended when they were arrested as they were charged with engaging in “gay activities”. Femi spent a month and two days in jail.

According to ABC Australia, since his arrest, Femi has been kicked out of home and now shuttles between “friends’ lounges and lovers’ beds.”

He has lost his job as a cleaner, left his studies at university and had sex for money to help pay for a ticket to Ghana where he hopes he can slip into obscurity.

Femi says he “became gay” at 14 when he fell in love with the man who raped him, an older man who was close friends with his father. He kept the relationship a secret until his father accused him of being “gay and acting girly”.

“When he was angry he would start flogging me,” Femi says.
“Any mistake and he would hit me. Every minute, every hour.”
After a month and two days in jail following his arrest, an NGO bailed him out.
“I tried to bribe my way out of it and members of the [LGBTI] community went to speak with my father…[he] asked them to let me die in [jail],” Femi says.
In 2014 former president Goodluck Jonathan signed a bill which proscribed penalties of 14 years’ jail for same-sex marriage and 10 years’ for same-sex “amorous relationships”.
Days after the hotel arrests, the Lagos State Attorney-General Adeniji Kazeem said the tough stance taken with the men was to help put “a stop to the exploitation of under-aged children” by gay men.

However, 15-year-old Doyin*, who was also arrested says no sex with minors took place. Doyin was in jail for seven days before he was released, but unlike many, he wasn’t fazed by the consequences.

“My parents know I’m gay. This is my lifestyle. This is what I choose and they say I should live my life,” he says.

“A gay is a human being and it’s God that created me like this .

I don’t have feelings for women. I have feelings for men. A gay is a human being [and that’s why I’m bold. I didn’t want my mum to know’
For Tunde*, the consequences were foremost in his mind.

"The police came through and started beating us so I covered my face because I didn’t want my mum to know,” he says.
Bundled into a cell with hardened criminals, Tunde says he was beaten up by another prisoner, called the President, who was instructed by police to extract confessions.

“This is when I had no choice … I said I was gay,” he says.

Along with the other men, Tunde pleaded not guilty to the charge in court, but his picture, name and HIV status were taken by local media and splashed across newspapers around the nation.

“When I came out my mum found out and the people I work with were abusing me saying I’m a girl,” he says.
“My grandma bought the newspaper and said I was not part of their family anymore and that I should leave the house.”

The men return to court on November 22. Lagos activist Peter Kass, whose NGO — Access to Health and Rights Development Initiative — was at the hotel conducting HIV tests for some of the patrons on the night of the arrests, claims gangs used social media to catch unsuspecting gay men out to either beat them up or exhort money from them.

“What people do is ping you or you get chatting and then you talk about hooking up,” he says.

“When you get there you discover the person isn’t even gay and there are six or seven men there … who are just out there to beat up gay men.”

British-Ghanian Actor, Sam Sarpong Jnr. Kills himself!

British-Ghanian actor and Supermodel Sam Sarpong passed away on Monday, Oct. 26, sources confirms. Sarpong took his own life after jumping off a bridge in Los Angeles. He was 40 at the time of his death.

Ed Winter, spokesperson for the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner - Coroner, confirms that Sarpong died on Monday after jumping off a bridge.

"It is with great sadness that the family of Samuel Sarpong Jr. must share the news that Sam has passed away," his family said in a statement via his rep. "The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation and no additional details are known at this time. ... The family appreciates the thoughts and prayers and other expressions of sympathy, and request that privacy be respected at this extremely difficult time."

The statement also noted that final arrangements are forthcoming.

According to a news release from the Pasadena Police Department, a witness called law enforcement on Monday morning after seeing a man standing outside of the bridge railing. Officers and firefighters communicated with him for hours, but he ultimately jumped to his death.

"It is sad and troubling when an individual has become so despondent that he or she feels their only option is to end their life," Police Chief Phillip Sanchez said in a statement. "These incidents can often have a significant impact on the victim's loved ones, first responders, and the community as a whole. My prayers go out to the family."

Sarpong, who lived in Pasadena, was born in London and moved to the USA with his Ghana-born father when he was 11.

He appeared as an actor in scores of films, such as Anchor Baby {a film actress Omoni Oboli played a part) and Love Don't Cost a Thing, and also scores of TV series, such as Bones, 24, Cold Case, NCIS and ER

He was a co-host on MTV’s Yo Momma alongside Wilmer Valderrama and a model for Tommy Hilfiger.

Omoni Oboli has been devastated by his death. She wrote:

Supreme Court dismisses Wike's non-jurisdiction challenge!

The Supreme Court has dismissed the suit filed by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, challenging the jurisdiction of the Rivers governorship election petition tribunal to hear a petition by candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dakuku Peterside.

In his statement, Wike had argued that the tribunal sitting in Abuja had no jurisdiction over matters that transpired in the state, contending that the tribunal should have sat in Rivers State and not Abuja therby breaching section 285 (2) of the 1999 Constitution.

However, the tribunal was moved to Abuja on the orders of the Chief Judge of the Appeal Court citing security concerns as reason for the decision ,as well as tribunals covering Akwa I‎bom, Yobe, Adamawa and Borno states.
The appeal court had earlier ruled that the tribunal could sit in Abuja to handle Rivers election petitions.

Following the ruling passed on the Rivers State governorship election on Saturday, the political temperature in the state has since risen a few bars as the ruling APC and the opposition PDP have been engaged in a war of words over the credibility of the judicial ruling.

The court also affirmed the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which had earlier okayed the decision of the Tribunal to assume jurisdiction.

The apex court likened the violence in Rivers to that of a theatre of war such as is prevailing in the North-East”, the party said in a statement sgned by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone in Port Harcourt today.

National Leadership of the PDP, in a strong-worded statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Saturday, however asked:

PDP supporters and lovers of democracy across the country to rise up and use all lawful means to resist anti-democratic forces, now using the judiciary and security agencies in their desperate scheme to subvert the will of the people and destroy the nation’s democracy.

The APC in its assessment after today's judgement was grateful that all seven eminent jurists of the Supreme Court unanimously agreed that there was sufficient violence before; during and after the elections to justify the relocation of the tribunal to Abuja and that the relocation of the tribunal to Abuja was to safeguard the lives of the tribunal chairman, members and witnesses.

The APC noted with delight that Justice Okoro from Akwa Ibom State not only concurred but went further to say that Rivers State was a theatre of war and as such protection of life and limbs of members of the panel and interested parties was paramount and thus relocation of the Panel imperative.

The APC also commended the eminent Supreme Court Justices for once again re-affirming that they always dispense justice without fear or favour despite the frequent boasts by Nyesom Wike that he has all the Justices of the Supreme Court in his pocket, whatever that means.
The significance of all seven eminent Justices of the Supreme Court speaking in one voice in today’s judgment according to the APC, is that the faith, hope and confidence of the ordinary Nigerian to get justice is assured in the Nigerian judicial system.

The New Ooni of Ife emerges!

40 year old Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi of the Giesi ruling house has emerged the 51st Ooni of Ile-Ife, Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola has said in a press statement.

This is happening barely three months after the death of Oba Okunade Sijuwade,

Aregbesola said in the brief statement that the kingmakers of Ife had completed the required process and communicated the choice of Prince Ogunwusi to his office for approval.

Ogunwusi takes over from Oba Sijuade, who died on July 28, 2015 in a London hospital.

Lagos Govt. Calls for calm as DSS arrests 45 Boko Haram Suspects!

The Lagos State Government through its Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, has urged citizens in the state to remain calm and very security conscious as the Police and other security agencies have intensified efforts to rid the state of hoodlums, armed robbers and suspected terrorists.

Speaking of the background of the arrest by the Department of State Services of 45 suspected Boko Haram members who allegedly planned to attack Dolphin Estate in Ikoyi, the State government expressed confidence in the combined efforts of DSS, Police and other security agencies to keep the state free of terror attacks and stamp out robberies and violent crimes.

In a statement signed by the the state government vowed not to relent in its constitutional duty to ensure safety of lives and property throughout the length and breadth of the state.

Ayorinde said the current reality is that times have changed and the need to urge every citizen to be more security conscious is now paramount.

Due to the economic hardship being experienced all over the country with many states and private business owners battling with payments of salaries and wages, Lagos State has become the prime destination for several thousands of people who now throng the daily with no plan to return, because they believe this is the state where economic succor is available.

Meanwhile, the DSS has charged the 45 suspects arrested at Dolphin Estate to a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Isolo on Friday and the court ordered they be remanded at the Kirikiri prisons in the state.

The DSS said the suspects were arrested following intelligence report on their alleged plan to attack the estate, which is in a high brow area in the state. The security operatives told the court that the suspects had volunteered confessional statements, adding that arms were recovered from them.

The DSS urged the court to remand the suspects in prison pending further investigations. The magistrate, who asked that his name should not be disclosed for security reasons, granted the prayers that the suspects be remanded in prison.

According to the charge filed before the court, the names of the suspects include Abuyi Sheriff, Babagana Ali, Abass Ibrahim, Abubaka Grema, Kabiri Ibrahim, Mustaph Mohammed, Usman Mohammed, Modu Amsami, Isa Agafi, Adamu Jebili and Saja Kamba.

Also among them were: Abba Sagoma, Mallam Buchu, Abdul-Kareem Abba, Babagana Koloye, Usman Buka, Adamu Mohammed, Lawal Mohammed, Tela Abana, Mustapha Mohammed, Isa Agafi, Belo Modu, Kachala Babagana, Modu Abu and Alhaji Modu Mustapha.

An affidavit presented in court disclosed how a team of the DSS cordoned off the area, intercepted the suspects and carried out the arrests.

Also, a Joint Task Force team comprising the personnel of the police, Department of State Services, the military and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has been combing the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and other towns for Boko Haram suspects and their sponsors.

As part of the operation to apprehend fleeing terror suspects, the Task Force last Wednesday, raided a black spot at Nyanya, a satellite town in the FCT, where it arrested about 30 suspects.

Nyanya and Kuje, FCT recorded twin bomb blasts on October 2, 2015, in which about 20 people lost their lives and many others were injured.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, said that the IG had set up a special intelligence team tasked with getting intelligence and information on terror plots in the country.

It was learnt that the intelligence team successfully arrested the masterminds of the Nyanya and Kuje bombings, five of whom were picked up at different parts of the FCT in Iddo village and Karamajiji, along Airport Road, and Gaulaka area in Suleja, Niger State.

The suspects—Abdulazeez Muhazab, Ishaka Salihu, Mohammed Jimoh, Abdulwaheed Nasiru and Abdullahi Nasiru were arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja last Thursday on five-count charges bordering on terrorism, conspiracy, accessory to acts of terrorism and act preparatory to an act of terrorism.

Ministerial Screening: I have never taken bribe - Rotimi Ameachi

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday finally screened the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi as minister along with four other ministerial nominees.

The former Governor of Rivers state Rotimi Amaechi, appeared before the senate for screening as a ministerial nominee, condemning acts of corruption and revealed that had never taken bribe in his life either as a private person or public official.

Amaechi who was asked to define corruption replied with a confusing definition. He said , “Corruption is very difficult to define. If you are a public officer and you don’t take bribe, I’ve never taken bribe in my life but if they send a girl to you and you sleep with the girl and do her favour, you are corrupt.”

According to him, “Corruption is a very wide concept. If people are contesting for a position and you offer your son, brother or sister an opportunity to hold that position, probably the person is not qualified, you are corrupt. So, it is difficult for me to define.

PDP senators chose not to ask him any question as he was been screened on the floor of the House.

12:30: Saraki asks Amaechi (Rivers state) to introduce himself.

Amaechi says: “I happen to be one of the first speakers and also served as a governor in my state for 8 years.”

After speaking about his achievements, Senate Minority leader Godswill Akpabio informs the Senate that PDP senators have no questions for the ministerial nominee Rotimi Amaechi at least for now.

12:43: The Senate Majority Leader Ali Ndume has suggested that Amaechi should be allowed to bow and go because he is a former speaker in his state. This has triggered uproar in the Senate.

12:46: Senate President Bukola Saraki however calls for order in the House and so questions are now been forwarded to Amaechi after the mild arguments.
